Fayetteville golf splits into three groups: courses anyone can book, Fort Bragg's Army-run facilities, and member clubs that rarely take outside play. The access label matters more than the scorecard when you are planning a round, so this guide sorts every course by who can actually play it. Public Golf Courses in Fayetteville

Baywood Golf Club

Baywood is the easiest public round to reach from I-95. It sits near exit 55. Stewart Gooden designed the course, which opened in 1990 and plays to par 72 at 6,763 yards from the back tees. The site notes the course recently changed ownership.

Cypress Lakes Golf Course

Cypress Lakes in Hope Mills is the longest public layout on this list, a par 72 at 7,240 yards on Bermuda fairways. Its site lists rates for both 18 and 9 holes, so it works for a quick after-work nine. The greens were renovated to Champion Bermuda. King's Grant Golf & Country Club

King's Grant on Shawcroft Road calls itself a semi-private 18-hole course, and its site states "Public Welcome." Non-members can book online. Members choose among single, family, Military Salute and social plans. The club also offers lessons and player development programs, a practice range, The Phoenix Bar & Grill and a covered pavilion for outings. Call (910) 630-1111 for weekend availability.

Bayonet at Puppy Creek

Bayonet at Puppy Creek in Raeford bills itself as a public course near the city. Willard Byrd designed it to test every part of a golfer's game. From the back tees it plays to par 72 at 6,819 yards with a 73.9 rating and 148 slope. Practice facilities include a 15-acre range with 2 acres of grass tees, a chipping green and two putting greens. The course also runs a Youth on Course program.

Golf on Fort Bragg

Two Fort Bragg golf facilities are operating, and only one is a course. Stryker, long known locally as a golf course, is now listed as the Stryker Golf Practice Facility. The Fort Bragg MWR golf page lists it with a 20-station driving range, a putting green, a short-game green and practice bunkers. It opens only a few days a week, weather permitting.

Ryder Golf Course is the post's 18-hole championship course. Its rate card includes a "Guests/Public" tier, so non-military golfers can play. Tee-time windows depend on who you are:

• 7 days ahead: active duty and annual green-fee members
• 5 days ahead: other authorized patrons
• 3 days ahead: the public

Children under 4 are not allowed on the course, juniors 4 to 12 must be supervised by an adult, and juniors 12 to 17 may play on their own. Ryder opens at noon on Tuesdays. Private Clubs

• Gates Four Golf & Country Club describes itself as "a full-service, private club." Willard Byrd designed the original course in 1967, and Kris Spence redesigned it in 2011. The club also has tennis, a pool and dining. It does not advertise guest play, so contact the club if you are invited by a member.
• Highland Country Club on Raeford Road was established in 1946 and operates on memberships.
• Methodist University's course on Ramsey Street is a private 18-hole course reserved for PGA Golf Management students, according to the university's facilities page. It is not open to the public.

Driving Ranges and Practice

Fayetteville has no stand-alone entertainment range like Topgolf. Golfers practice at the courses themselves: Baywood's grass range, King's Grant's practice range, Bayonet's 15-acre range, and Stryker on post for golfers with installation access. Tips for Golfing in Fayetteville

1. Book online first. King's Grant says its lowest prices are on its own site, and Baywood, Cypress Lakes and Bayonet all take online tee times.
2. Check the dress code. Baywood requires collared shirts.
3. Plan for post access. Ryder is the only Fort Bragg course, and civilians must clear the visitor center before a public-tier tee time.
4. Watch for closures. Courses close for greens work and storms. Cypress Lakes, for example, posts closure days on its homepage.
