Fayetteville NC ZIP Codes: Full List and Map Guide (2026)
Fayetteville, NC uses 13 ZIP codes. Ten carry street delivery: 28301, 28303, 28304, 28305, 28306, 28311, 28312 and 28314, plus 28307 on Fort Bragg and 28308 at Pope Army Airfield. 28302 and 28309 are PO-box-only, and 28310 is Fort Bragg's military-unique ZIP. The table below lists each code with its delivery type, based on ZIP-Codes.com's USPS-based listing. Use it to check whether an address is inside city limits before you compare taxes, schools or utilities.
Every Fayetteville-area ZIP code at a glance
The table below covers every ZIP that carries a Fayetteville, Fort Bragg or Pope Army Airfield mailing address. Types and USPS city names come from ZIP-Codes.com's Cumberland County list; 2020 Census populations come from its Fayetteville city page. The "share inside city limits" column is our calculation from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2020 ZCTA-to-place relationship file, measured by land area, and it is only given for ZIPs that have a Census ZIP Code Tabulation Area (PO-box ZIPs do not).

A few patterns stand out for movers:
- 28314, 28306, 28304 and 28311 hold most of the residents. Together they account for roughly 172,000 of the people counted in Fayetteville-address ZIPs in 2020, per the ZIP-Codes.com figures.
- 28305 is tiny. At about 2.6 square miles of land in the Census relationship file, it is the smallest Fayetteville ZIP and sits entirely inside the city. If you want an older, walkable neighborhood near downtown, start with our Haymount Historic District guide.
- 28306 and 28312 are mostly rural. 28306 covers about 70 square miles and 28312 about 164 square miles of land, yet only small fractions sit inside city limits. A "Fayetteville, NC 28312" address is often a county address.
How to find your exact ZIP code (and your ZIP+4)
- Use the USPS lookup. The USPS ZIP Code Lookup returns the five-digit ZIP and the full nine-digit ZIP+4 for a specific street address. This is the authoritative answer for mail, and it is the fastest way to get the "9-digit ZIP" that some military, bank and government forms ask for.
- Check the lease or deed, then confirm with USPS. Listing sites sometimes default a whole subdivision to one ZIP. Confirm before you file a change of address, register a vehicle or enroll children.
- Do not use the ZIP to guess school assignment. School assignment is based on the street address, and ZIP lines are drawn for mail routes. Confirm the assigned school for the exact address with Cumberland County Schools before you sign a lease.
ZIP code vs. city limits vs. Cumberland County
A ZIP code is a USPS delivery route, not a government boundary. That matters in Fayetteville because three different lines overlap:
- The ZIP code decides the city name printed on your mail.
- Fayetteville city limits decide whether you pay city property taxes and receive city services such as Fayetteville Police Department patrol.
- Cumberland County covers everything in the table above except the parts of 28304 and 28306 that cross into Hoke County and the parts of 28306 and 28312 that cross into Bladen County, according to the Census ZCTA-to-county file.
Because only about 16% of 28306, 33% of 28311 and 3% of 28312 fall inside the city (by land area, 2020 Census geography), many households with a "Fayetteville" mailing address actually live in unincorporated Cumberland County or a small town. Outside city limits, patrol comes from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Operations Division, which covers the county's unincorporated areas plus Stedman, Godwin, Wade, Falcon, Eastover and Linden.
A practical way to check whether an address is inside the city is the Fayetteville Police Department's crime map, which the city describes as covering crime "within the city limits of Fayetteville" on its Crime Data & Information page. For a definitive answer on a specific parcel, ask the seller, landlord or closing attorney for the property's tax jurisdiction. Fort Bragg ZIP codes: 28307, 28308 and 28310
The installation was renamed Fort Bragg on February 14, 2025, honoring Pfc. Roland L. Bragg, per the Army's announcement. It had carried the name Fort Liberty from 2023 until then. Three ZIP codes serve the post:
- 28310 (unique, military). This is the ZIP for unit and building addresses on Fort Bragg. ZIP-Codes.com lists Fort Bragg as the city and notes that Fort Liberty remains an accepted alias, so older paperwork showing "Fort Liberty, NC 28310" still delivers. Unit addresses are building-specific, so get the exact format from the unit or its mail clerk; the post's Official Postal Center trains unit mail clerks and inspects unit mailrooms.
- 28307 (standard). Street delivery with Fort Bragg as the USPS city; Fayetteville and Fort Liberty are accepted aliases, per ZIP-Codes.com. It had 14,426 residents in the 2020 Census.
- 28308 (standard). Pope Army Airfield, with Fayetteville accepted as an alias, per ZIP-Codes.com.

ZIP codes for nearby towns
Many military families shop for homes just outside Fayetteville. These towns have their own ZIP codes and their own USPS city names (types from ZIP-Codes.com's county list; county splits from the Census ZCTA-to-county file):
| ZIP | USPS city | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 28348 | Hope Mills | Standard ZIP south of Fayetteville; entirely in Cumberland County. See Hope Mills and Gray's Creek. |
| 28390 | Spring Lake | Standard ZIP next to Fort Bragg; about 52% of its land is in Harnett County, including part of Anderson Creek. See Spring Lake and Anderson Creek. |
| 28391 | Stedman | Standard ZIP east of Fayetteville. |
| 28356 | Linden | Standard ZIP north of Fayetteville; about 21% of its land is in Harnett County. |
| 28395 | Wade | Standard ZIP northeast of Fayetteville. |
| 28342 | Falcon | PO box ZIP for the town of Falcon. |
| 28376 | Raeford | Hoke County ZIP west of Fayetteville. |
One more naming wrinkle: the Jack Britt High School area south of the city carries Fayetteville 28306 addresses, yet only about 16% of 28306's land is inside the city. Our Jack Britt and Rockfish guide covers that part of the county.
Quick tips for movers
- Update the right address everywhere. Use the exact USPS city name your ZIP expects. Fort Bragg housing addresses should read Fort Bragg, NC, even though Fayetteville is accepted on 28307 and 28308.
- Budget by jurisdiction, not ZIP. Two homes in 28306 can sit on opposite sides of the city line, which changes the tax bill. Our cost of living guide helps with the wider budget.
- Plan your commute by gate, not ZIP. A 28311 address near Ramsey Street and a 28314 address off Cliffdale Road lead to very different drives. Use the commute and transportation guide to test routes before you sign.
- Downtown and 28301. If you want to live near restaurants and events, our downtown guide covers the blocks around Hay Street. For the broader picture of moving here, start at Relocation or the Fort Bragg hub, and veterans can find benefits resources on our veterans page.
