Urgent Care in Fayetteville, NC: Walk-In Clinics & ER Tips

Fayetteville's walk-in clinics cluster along Ramsey Street, Raeford Road, Morganton Road and the Glensford Drive area, and most of them are run by regional chains rather than the hospital. All six showed as operational on Google Maps when this guide was last updated. Posted hours differ by clinic and change with holidays and staffing, so check the location page or call before you drive over.

Urgent Care or the ER?

Urgent care fills the gap between your primary care office and the emergency department. FirstHealth's own guidance draws the line clearly, and the other clinics follow the same logic.

Go to the ER or call 911 for:

• Chest pain or shortness of breath
• A bad headache, sudden weakness or speech changes
• Bad abdominal pain
• A severe fracture

Urgent care is built for:

• Minor sprains, strains and simple fractures
• Cuts that may need stitches
• Cold, flu, sinus, ear and urinary infections
• Rashes, insect bites and mild burns
• Sports, school or work physicals

TRICARE uses a similar test: urgent care is for a problem that "doesn't threaten life, limb or eyesight." When in doubt, call 911.

Clinic-by-Clinic Notes

Cape Fear Valley ExpressCare: Health Pavilion North

Cape Fear Valley Health brands its walk-in clinics as ExpressCare. The one to know is Health Pavilion North ExpressCare at 6387 Ramsey Street in north Fayetteville, phone (910) 615-3879. Its page lists acute illnesses such as flu, sinus infections, strep throat, pneumonia and ear infections, plus minor injuries including sprains, strains and broken bones. The page also states that any child under 2 years old will not be admitted, so take toddlers elsewhere.

Older references to a Highsmith-Rainey ExpressCare on Robeson Street are out of date: Google Maps lists that location as permanently closed.

FastMed: Two Fayetteville Locations

FastMed runs two walk-in clinics in the city. The Ramsey Street clinic sits at 150 Francam Drive off Ramsey Street, phone (910) 487-1100; its page also lists separate primary care hours. The Fayetteville-Hope Mills clinic is at 3007 Town Center Drive, phone (910) 354-1281. Both pages advertise on-site X-rays and lab testing and offer a "Book Visit" online check-in.

Both location pages list "Tricare East (Commercial)" among in-network plans for urgent care. They also sometimes flag that a clinic "is offering limited services today," so call ahead if you need an X-ray.

NextCare Urgent Care: West Fayetteville

NextCare is at 217 Glensford Drive near Campground Road, phone (910) 483-4647. It lists X-rays, blood testing and occupational medicine. Checking in online and completing forms before you arrive is the clinic's own advice for cutting lobby time. Its page names Aetna, BCBS, Carolina Access, Cigna, Medicare and Travelers but does not mention TRICARE; for other plans it points to (888) 381-4858.

Carolina QuickCare: Raeford Road

Carolina QuickCare at 2807 Raeford Road, Suite 100, phone (910) 996-4800, handles stitches, splinting and on-site X-rays, plus rapid COVID, strep and flu/RSV testing. It also does pre-employment and DOT physicals, workers' compensation visits, and school, camp and sports physicals. Walk-ins are welcome, but the clinic encourages a same-day online reservation for the fastest service. TRICARE appears on its list of accepted insurance.

FirstHealth Convenient Care: Morganton Road

FirstHealth of the Carolinas, which also runs Convenient Care clinics in Southern Pines, Pinehurst, Whispering Pines and Hamlet, operates a Convenient Care clinic at 3716 Morganton Road, phone (910) 565-5159. It offers digital X-rays and lab testing, treats children of all ages, and lists Tricare among accepted plans. FirstHealth says that in most cases a Convenient Care co-pay is the same as a primary care co-pay. Online scheduling runs through MyChart's "Find Care Now" tool.

What About Novant Health?

We found no Novant Health urgent care in Fayetteville. A Google Maps search for Novant Health urgent care near Fayetteville returned Novant Health-GoHealth centers elsewhere in the state, such as Concord, rather than a local clinic.

TRICARE Urgent Care Rules for Military Families

Fort Bragg families have extra rules to follow. According to TRICARE's urgent care page:

• Active duty service members in TRICARE Prime must get urgent care at a military hospital or clinic, or get a referral from the Global Nurse Advice Line. Locally, that usually means Womack Army Medical Center.
• Active duty members in TRICARE Prime Remote need no referral and can use any TRICARE-authorized urgent care center or network provider.
• Everyone else in TRICARE Prime, including family members, needs no referral at a TRICARE-authorized urgent care center or network provider. Seeing a non-network provider outside an authorized urgent care center triggers point-of-service fees.
• TRICARE Select (and Reserve Select, Retired Reserve and Young Adult-Select) can use any TRICARE-authorized urgent care center or provider. Network providers file the claim for you; non-network providers may require you to pay up front and file for reimbursement.

TRICARE notes the line is not available to Uniformed Services Family Health Plan or TRICARE Prime Demo enrollees. Urgent Care for Kids

Tips Before You Go

• Reserve a spot online where offered (FastMed, NextCare, Carolina QuickCare and FirstHealth all have online check-in or scheduling).
• Bring a photo ID, your insurance or TRICARE card, and a list of medications and allergies.
• Call ahead for imaging. X-ray availability can depend on who is staffed that day.
• Ask for records. Request that your visit notes go to your primary care manager, especially if you are enrolled in TRICARE Prime.
