Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex
Arts, Culture & Entertainment
The Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex is a free state history museum at 801 Arsenal Avenue in Fayetteville, operated as a regional branch of the North Carolina Museum of History. Opened in 1988, the complex combines a regional history museum, the 1897 Poe House (a Victorian home listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983), and the 4.5-acre Arsenal Park, which preserves the ruins of the Fayetteville Arsenal destroyed by General William T. Sherman's army in March 1865. Exhibits cover southern North Carolina history from Native American cultures through the Civil War, local industries, and transportation.
